FTP Training

This Forest Therapy Practitioner Training course is intended for licensed or certified (unlicensed) professionals in health care workers, social and human services, and those in other health and wellness practices.

We have learned that being a good Forest Therapy Practitioner is the result of developing skills that enables participants to find a meditative space that helps create a greater sensory connection with nature. Through this course, we will present information that will engage, empower, and encourage your team to apply Forest Therapy in a health and wellnesses capacity. This foundational course will give your team the skills that they need to design walks to help participants can find calm, create and hold space, deepen their connections with nature, and achieve an overall boosted sense of well-being.

  • Forest medicine, science, theory and research.

  • Science of meditation, and its application in accelerating connection with nature.

  • The Art of Language: creating open invitations and meditations.

  • History and application of circle work and council.

  • How to manage group dynamics to provide an integrated experience.

  • Nature awareness and safety.

  • Guiding style assessment, including introvert/extrovert analysis.

  • Discuss the practice of breath work and application to creating sensory Forest Therapy-experiences for clients and professionals.

  • Describe the utility of Forest Therapy in clinical practice and evidence supporting its use for specific clients.

  • Explain how to evaluate the use of Forest Therapy in the treatment of various mental health disorders.

  • Describe how Forest Therapy techniques may be used in continuing care.

  • Integrate Forest Therapy into an existing social work, therapeutic, mental health, wellness or other professional practice.

  • Identify the importance of considering the participants needs and group dynamics.

  • Distinguish between forest bathing and Forest Therapy applications to improving mental health. 

  • Describe how to compose short meditations invitations, and prompts to encourage inclusion.

  • Develop an effective style for Forest Therapy using appropriate language and techniques.

Course Format

This is a Hybrid Course consisting of 10 modules where attendees will complete the course partially as a live video synchronous zoom class, and partially in-person, for a total of 9hr10mins of learning time with timed breaks. The content level for the Forest Therapy Practitioner Training is beginner.

  • 6 Live Synchronous Modules covering the history of Forest Therapy, Meditation Techniques and Psychotherapy, and Group Counsel concepts will be taught through live-synchronous learning over zoom.

  • 4 Live In-Person Modules covering Sensory Nature Exploration, Invitations (2 Modules), and Practical Skills are taught in person, with an additional immersive portion of the course that focus on clinical applications of Forest Therapy.

The live synchronous portion of the course is interactive in that attendees will participate in breakout groups and practice guided audio-meditation exercises in nature in their home, or in the vicinity of nature. Attendees will also design short Forest Therapy invitations intended to elicit discussion and questions with other participants.


Agenda

3 Virtual Sessions

  • 6 Modules (2 Modules per evening) and includes 5hrs 30 min total learning hours.

  • Takes place on 3 consecutive evenings, 2 hours per evening total.

  • Module Virtual Sessions are 8-10 pm EST, with 1, 10-minute break per evening.

  • NOTE: You must have a computer and access to the Zoom platform including both video and audio. Zoom is available for both PC and Mac and can be easily downloaded to your computer.

2-Day In-Person Immersion

  • 4 Modules (2 Modules per day) and includes 3hr40mins total learning hours.

  • Module Sessions are 9:30-11:30 am local time depending on training venue, with 1, 10-minute breaks per day.

  • Additional immersion exercises each afternoon.

Continuing Education

Forest Therapy Practitioner Training, Course #3527, is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by Treebath, Inc. as an individual course. Individual courses, not providers, are approved at the course level. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. ACE course approval period: 08/10/2021 - 08/10/2023. Social workers completing this course receive 9 General Social Work Practice continuing education credits. 

In order to receive ACE credit and a ACE credit certificate, all attendees must complete both virtual and in-person components of the Forest Therapy Practitioner Training, and complete a course evaluation post-completion of the course. Course evaluation will be submitted online via a link provided to participants.

ACE credit completion & certificate will be issued by email within ten (10) days of course completion.


FTP Certification

After completing the FTP Training, you may continue on to become a Certified FTP. Whether you chose the novice or professional track, upon completing the FTP Certification you will be able to independently conduct individual and group Forest Therapy sessions that support healing and mental health. The Certification process includes a rigorous mentored practice that fully prepares you to meet the highest standards of Forest Therapy. Certification is only available when registering for the FTP Training.


Pathways

Professional Level (Licensed professionals only (e.g., LCSW, LSW, RN, MD))

  • Investment: $300 for two year certification

  • Pre-requisite: Complete the FTP Training course and be in practice for at least three (3) years as a licensed medical, health or wellness professional.

  • Includes:1-month, 25-hour mentored practicum, one-on-one calls, group sessions, all materials, official Certificate, and membership in Treebath’s FTP Network.

Non-Professional Level

  • Investment: $1,200 for two year certification

  • Pre-requisite: Complete the FTP Training course

  • Includes: 4-month,100-hour mentored practicum, four one-on-one calls, four group sessions, all materials, official Certificate, and membership in Treebath’s FTP Network.
