Meet the Founders

As parents of two young boys, Oskar and Nicole Elmgart founded Treebath to help people disconnect from technology and get back outside.

“We have both always felt at home in nature. Being surrounded by nature and fresh air is something that we crave in our everyday lives for ourselves and our children.”

Treebath’s roots stem from our Explorers program, which initially grew out of our frustration with the lack of fun and educational outdoors activities after school in New York City. Nicole and Oskar started looking for new ways to get our boys back in nature.

Launched in the fall of 2017, Treebath’s Explorers Program is based on a 60 year-old Swedish after school program that Oskar attended as a child. Over 2 million children have completed the Swedish program, which Oskar has also been involved in running with his mother back in Sweden.

The adult Forest Therapy programs were a natural progression after seeing the impact just a few hours in nature had on our students. We wanted to create a way for adults to get outside and play too. Certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy in January 2018, we created our own Forest Therapy format that incorporates multiple therapeutic and wellness practices proven to improve mental health.

As Treebath continues to evolve, we remain committed to our simple mission: to bring adults and children back outside.

We hope to see you outdoors.

Treebath Forest Therapists and Forest Therapy Practitioners

All of our guides meet the highest standards in various disciplines including forest therapy, social work, horticultural therapy, shinrin-yoku, and environmental education. Our adult programs are led by Certified Forest Therapy Practitioners. All our team members have been trained in first aid and CPR and know how to make even the most timid nature enthusiasts feel safe. They understand that each person’s connection to nature is deeply personal, and lead adults and children in their own unique journey.
